Walk in remembrance of Richard Brandon, REME

The walk on March 21st was in remembrance of Richard Brandon, REME, who was killed in Afghanistan last year. His cousin Neil Bradley works at Birmingham International Airport. The newly formed BHX Combined Services Veterans Association at the airport organised the walk from St Michael's Church in Kidderminster, where Richard's service was held, to Birmingham International Airport.
It started at 07:05 in thick fog at the church and ended at the airport at 18:30 - a total of approx 28 miles, everyone carrying 35lb packs. The walkers were Lee, Jon, Dave, Neil and Hilary, and for most of the walk Nigel.
All monies raised are to be equally split between Troop Aid and Help for Heroes.
Troop Aid support provided by the UK Defence Academy
It gives me great pleasure to report on the hard work and efforts two prominent figures at The UK Defence Academy Shrivenham.
On 10 Feb 2010 an old friend of mine WO John Houghton (RAF Regt) College Warrant Officer Shrivenham, invited me to one of his Charity Quiz Nights. On this occasion the attendees consisted of a plethora of Squadron Leaders from across the RAF. The deal was for me to highlight the effects of supporting Troop Aid whilst assisting John with entertaining the Officers with a charity quiz and not forgetting of course, reaping some of there hard earned cash.
Without going into too much detail, the evening was a total success; the quiz raised a fantastic £483.51. Notwithstanding the fact “we all had a great night”.
The word soon travelled and a week or so later WO Houghton supported by WO1 Simpson (Academy Sgt Maj) set about raising more cash for Troop Aid by means of another Quiz Night this time in the Academy’s WO’s & Sgt’s Mess. On this occasion the pair amalgamated a sum total of £342.44.
As the Military Liaison Officer (Air Cmd) at Selly Oak Hospital, I can honestly say that these two Warrant Officers have gone above and beyond the call of duty in order to raise funds for a wonderful charity. I am privileged to be in a position to see the benefits of there labour. There is nothing more pleasing than to see a military patient want for nothing during there recovery and rehabilitation.
Many thanks to you all and keep up the great work.
